This 9th annual fundraising event continues to evolve, and carries on its positive impact on local cancer care organization having raised over $700,000 to date. It all started in August of 2008, when the New Jersey Motorsports Park opened its race facility with one of the first events ever held on Thunderbolt Raceway being the inaugural Run, Ride & Walk. This event doubled in size twice during the next two years, and then, upon the untimely death of the much beloved and community activist Barbara Cook, the name changed to the Barbara Cook Cancer Foundation, which soon became its own 501(c)(3) organization.
Now, five years later, the event continues to evolve and the name has changed again, to the Bill Bottino Cancer Foundation.
Over the last three years, the Bottino family and its ShopRite Stores located in Deerfield Township, Millville, Vineland and Washington Township, NJ dominated the fundraising part of this annual event, contributing up to 85% of the profit some years. This, along with the family members taking on more of the operational responsibilities of the event, allowed the Bottinos to recognize their need to pay honor to Bill Bottino, the Patriarch of the family, who lost his battle with lung cancer. The obvious transition of changing the name of the foundation took place this past January, allowing this event to evolve once again.
The good news is, the spirit to help area cancer service organizations remains the same, and the value of an all volunteer force to make this event successful also continues. The Bottino family is very proud to host this amazing annual event, and we hope you will support us in helping local cancer survivors cope with their illness.
